The High Priestess

I'm going to be posting daily prompts to inspire writing, art or journaling. Use these as you would like to help keep your creative practices moving.

Key words/ideas:

  • ceremony and the secrets

  • wisdom

  • intuition and spirituality

  • dreams and the unknown

This is one of my favourite cards. Some thoughts that occur to me:

  • A character who practices the mysteries of a divine entity. Who is the entity? What are their goals? How is your character enacting those plans? Come up with a long list of ideas - as you get the simple ones out of your system more interesting ones will appear.

  • A character connects with the truths their dreams might tell them and the powers they might offer. But is this really a good idea?

  • She is the keeper of mysteries - but how is she interpreting those mysteries in the context of her world? Is that how they are meant to be understood?

  • Write a story about an alternative history where two ancient beings have been using the world as a battleground for centuries. Write it from the point of view of someone trying to mediate a peace.

During January 2024 I recommend using these either to generate ideas, alongside the Solo Writer’s Curriculum theme for the month, or to prepare for the writing activity I will be suggesting next month, Flash February (28 days, 28 pieces of flash fiction).

Note that cards are drawn at random and may be drawn more than once. In that case I will repost with an additional idea. I am going to cap the number of repeats at 3 until I’ve been through the whole deck, but other than this I let the luck of the draw decide. Coming up with more ideas for the same card will force me to be more imaginative and its something I strongly recommend.
